Milton C. Gelenian Esq.

Milton C. Gelenian Esq., age 79, passed away Monday, March 15, 2010, at his residence in Germantown, MD. Milton was born in Racine, February 28, 1931, son of the late Eghia and Siranoush Gelenian.

Milton graduated from Wm Horlick High School “Class of 1949.” Milton attended University of Wisconsin-Madison, Roosevelt College, Chicago, IL, and graduated from Georgetown University Law School in 1958 following three years of service as a Marine Corps Sergeant in the Korean War. After graduation, he was the Office Manager for Senator William Proxmire and served as assistant corporation counsel for the Washington, D.C., government before entering private practice in 1961. He was a prominent lawyer with his own private practice specializing in Immigration Law in Washington, D.C. He has served as president of the D.C. Chapter and vice president on the national level of the American International Law Division, Immigration and Nationality Committee of the American Bar Association. He belonged to the Maryland, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C., Bar Associations. He has also served the Armenian Apostolic Church of America for whom he has traveled internationally as a U.S. delegate, and as a trustee for the Armenian Assembly of America.

Milton was the beloved husband of Seda (Nee: Khoyan) Gelenian; father of Knar (Armen) Mardirossian, and children Natalie, Aris, and Berj; Gigi Gelenian; Varak (Regla) Gelenian and children Alexander and Isis, Siran Gelenian. He is also survived by two sisters, Sonia (Sarkis) Buchaklian, Mary (Berj) Djibilian; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Lucy Gelenian, Rosemary Gelenian, Thelma Khoyan, Vahan (Linda) Khoyan; mother-in-law, Yertzgeen Sirarpi Khoyan; nieces, nephews, other close relatives and many dear friends throughout the United States, Canada and France. In addition to his parents, Milton was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, The Rev. Fr. Dickran Khoyan and his two brothers, Harry and Augie.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, March 22, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church, 4100 Newman Road, with Fr. Daniel Garabedian officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m. Memorials to St. Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church have been suggested.
