Mattie Jane Williams-Carothers

Mattie Jane Williams-Carothers, age 71, was born in Broooksville, Mississippi, on February 11, 1940, to the late Wiley and Jane Williams (Samuels) and left this earthly life on Monday, November 28, 2011, to be with our heavenly Father.

She accepted Christ at the age of 11 at Prairie Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Turnipseed. Mattie was a graduate of Mildred Jackson High School in Hughes, Arkansas. After completing high school, she attended Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1961, Mattie married Calvin Carothers and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee. The couple later moved to Racine, Wisconsin, in 1965. She attended St. Paul Baptist Church until health prevented her attendance. Mattie was an employee at Western Printing for many years until her failing health.

Mattie leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Perry and Kendric; two daughters, Jacqueline and Joyceann of Racine, Wisconsin; one stepson, Larry Carothers; seventeen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Julia (Herman Smith), Addie Williams, Ethel Williams of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Maddie Williams of Racine, Wisconsin; one brother, Hinds Williams of Racine, Wisconsin; two brothers-in-law, John Hill, Kenosha, Wisconsin, Charlie Smith of Benton Harbor, Michigan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, four sisters, three sons and one great-grandson.

A Home Going Celebration will be held Monday, December 5, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1120 Grand Ave. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
