Mount Pleasant - Vernon L. Kletecka, 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, November 25, 2011.
Vernon was born in Lake Geneva to the late Emil and Laura (nee: Van Duzer) Kletecka on January 24, 1927. He lived in Racine for most of his life, since 1955. In Lake Geneva, he was united in marriage to Marillyn Bill in 1950. She preceded him in death in 1968. In Eau Claire, he married his current wife, Mary Alice Rounds on June 6, 1969.
Mr. Kletecka was proud to serve his country in the United States Navy (retired) for two terms during both World War II and the Korean War. He was a member at First Baptist Church where he served on the church Choir. He was employed by Howard Industries as a tool and die maker and retired in 1990.
Vernon was an avid golfer and gardener. He was a great handyman working with his tools. He even worked maintenance at the Fountain Hills Apartments while he lived there. In their earlier years, he and his wife, Mary Alice, traveled many times to the Gulf Shores in Alabama. Vernon loved to sing and whistle and was a story teller, especially limericks. He especially enjoyed telling stories to his grandchildren at Christmas time.
Vernon will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary Alice; two children, John (Mary Ann) Kletecka and Jane Engbring; three grandchildren, William (Wendi), Stephen and Keri Kletecka; two great-grandchildren, Cody James and Claire Marie Kletecka; and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Thursday, December 1, 2011, at 10 a,m, with Rev. Holly Anderle officiating. Private inurnment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church.
