Robert “Bob” B. Martin, age 84, passed away Friday, November 25, 2011, at Harbor House –North. Bob was born in Youngstown, Ohio, June 5, 1927, son of the late Henry P. and Lillian (Nee: Boulton) Martin.
On December 30, 1950, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church he was united in marriage to Peggy L. Doolin. After returning from World War II Bob attended Ripon College and served in the National Guard from 1946-1956. An active and dedicated member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Bob served as an usher and on the Vestry several times. He belonged to the Masonic Order, 32nd Degree Mason, Shrine International, Racine Bell City Lodge #18, the Friends of the Library, and held various positions within the Racine Jaycees organization. Bob also served on the Board of Directors and as business manager for a number of years for the Racine Symphony Orchestra. A member of the Volunteer in Partnership, Bob volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital Gift Shop for many years. He was employed by J.I. Case Company for eighteen years, and then by In-Sink-Erator for twenty-five years in Purchasing, retiring in 1990. Bob was a member of In-Sink-Erator’s “20 Year Club.” More than anything, Bob cherished time spent with his family and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty years, Peggy; his children, Jeffrey (Mary) Martin of Delafield, WI, James (Kathie) Martin, Jane (Gary) Fox, all of Racine; his five grandchildren, Erin (Andy) Warmus, Andrew Martin, Bryce Martin, Matthew Martin, Patrick Martin; his great-granddaughter, Kenzie Warmus; sister-in-law, Janet Martin of Park Forest, IL; niece, Ann (Rich) Rodriguez; nephew, Patrick (Debi) Martin; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Henry P. Martin.
A Memorial Service with military honors will be held Saturday, December 3, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 614 Main St., with Rev. Liz Simonds and Rev. Travis DuPriest officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Memorials to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Southeastern Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Association or to the Racine Public Library have been suggested.
