Michael P. Garrity

Pompano Beach, FL -- Michael P. Garrity, age 74, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at his residence.

Michael set sail on his journey to rejoin the Lord and the family and friends gone before him.  He was born on May 31, 1939, in Springfield, IL, to James W. Jr. and Helen Ann (Whalen) Garrity.

He attended St. Catherine’s High School and Dominican College.  He served in the United States Army for three years in Hokkaido, Japan.   He was employed by Jacobson Manufacturing in International Sales for several years and then joined N. Christensen Real Estate (First Weber) for 30 years as a Realtor.

Michael was a member of many organizations and was a member of the Racine Yacht Club for over 50 years.  Michael met the love of his life, John Manning, and they shared the past 40 years together.  Mike and John enjoyed traveling to such places as Australia, Fiji, Curacao, Great Britain, Canada, Venezuela, Ireland, Mexico, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and many other places.

Michael is survived by John; his two “girls,” Brandy and Bourbon; his brothers, Jim (Ann) and Robert (Cheryl) Garrity; and sister, Rosemary (Dominic) Cariello.  He is further survived by his nieces and nephews, David (Gina) Garrity, Skot Garrity, Kelly (Jason) Garrity, Christopher Garrity (Melissa), Jennifer (Nick) Willis, Michaella Cariello (Mikhail) and Matthew Cariello (Jeana) and eight grand-nieces and nephews.  He is survived by John’s father, James Strub; John’s brother and sisters, Don (Rosie), Ginny (Joe), Sandee (Chuck), Debbie (Jim) and Teri (Mike); and ten nieces and nephews.  He leaves behind many dear friends including Fran (Gary) Petrick, Tim, Reba, Mark, Ron and Ken, Dick and Pat, Stan, Thom, Danny and Richard, Una, Zelda and many more.  He was preceded by his parents, Aunt Dorothy Garrity, Aunt Marge Caufield, John’s parents, Cyril and Viola Manning, and two “daughters, Tess and Misty. Misty will be buried with her “Daddy.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Richard’s Catholic Church, 1503 Grand Ave., with Reverend Allen Bratkowski officiating.  Interment with full military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Saturday at the church 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m.
