Serge Edward Logan was born in Chicago on February 7, 1926. He died October 30, 2013, at Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee, WI.
Serge retired from SC Johnson in 1989 after 29 years of service. At the time of his retirement, he was Special Assistant to the Chairman, Mr. Sam Johnson. His previous positions at the company included Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, Trustee of the SC Johnson Fund, and Director of Communications. Serge also served as editor of The Johnson Magazine for 20 years.
Serge graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Minnesota with a BA in journalism and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. In 1950, he joined the staff of the Racine Journal-Times as a reporter and rose to the position of Sunday Editor. He is a charter and life member of Meeting Professionals International and served as an officer of the Wisconsin chapter. While at Johnson’s, Serge traveled extensively, making arrangement for the company’s worldwide meetings. During World War II, he served as a radioman aboard the USS Lander in the Pacific Theatre (1944-46).
He was active in the Boy Scouts of America since 1951, having been Scoutmaster at the former Lincoln School for 20 years, Past President of the local Council, and a member of the Board of the Southeast Wisconsin Council. He was awarded the Silver Antelope and the Silver Beaver for his service. Serge also was on the Board of the Girl Scouts of Racine County and Vice Chairman for Fund Development and Public Relations. Upon retirement from the Board in 1996, he received its Thanks Badge and Thanks Badge II. SC Johnson awarded Serge the H.F. Johnson Community Service Award for his activities.
Serge was active in several civic organizations including the Racine Community Foundation (president), the Racine Area United Way, the Racine United Arts Fund (president and past chair), the Southeast Wisconsin Aviation Museum (founder and chair), the Wustum Museum (board member and president), and the Racine Literary Council. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church.
Memorials are suggested to the Serge Logan Fund in the Racine Community Foundation, First United Methodist Church, Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, or a charity of one’s choice. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 745 Main St., Racine, WI, (262) 633-7632, on Saturday, November 23, at 11:30 a.m.
