Patricia J. Hansen

Patricia J. Hansen, age 80, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center.   Pat was born in Racine on March 19, 1933, daughter of the late Victor and Margaret Hansen.

Pat was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1952” and Dominican College “Class of 1956.”  She taught for many years at Racine and Kenosha Unified School Districts including Stephen Bull Fine Arts. Pat was instrumental in the creation of the Red Apple School, and served as coordinator for many years.  A longtime and faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Pat was a devoted volunteer, helping with the Thursday night meal program and St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry.

With a great love for nature, flowers, history and the Racine community, Pat volunteered and was a member of the Racine Garden Club and Preservation Racine, and she was involved in the development of the Kids Cove Playground at North Beach.  She was a board member of the Downtown Farmers Market, active in the Northside Neighborhood Alliance group of Racine Neighborhood Watch and an avid reader who enjoyed time spent with her book club.  Pat was the most senior member of the Red Onion Cafe’s honorary “Board of Directors.” She also took great pride in her Irish heritage, her gardens, and her historic family home “on the hill.”  She will be deeply missed.

Pat was preceded in death by her family and many close friends, including her beloved four-legged companion, Sidney D. Hansen. Survivors include her special friend, Roland Belisle; she is also survived by many cherished friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1100 Erie St., with Rev. Antony Thomas officiating.  Private interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m.  Memorials to St. Patrick’s Meal Program or to the Wisconsin Humane Society have been suggested.
