Michael W. Byra

Michael W. Byra, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home, Union Grove.  Michael was born in Lawrence, MA, on February 27, 1932, son of the late Michael and Catherine (Nee:  Wawszkiewicz) Byra.

He proudly served in the United States Navy.  On May 12, 1956, he was united in marriage to Marjorie J. Blaser.  He was employed by Western Publishing for forty-two years, retiring in 1991. Michael was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 310.

Survivors include his children, Daniel (Susan) Byra, Mark (Paula) Byra, Mary Byra; four grandchildren, Hollie (James) DeFranco, Nikolaas Byra, Meaghan Fors, Betsy Byra; sister, Leslie (Richard) Salach; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at 6 p.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Ave., with Rev. Warren Williams officiating. Private entombment with Full Military Honors will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the church from 4 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Atonement Lutheran Church or the Diabetes Association have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Howard Short and Mike’s caregivers at Boland Hall for their loving and compassionate care.
