Jane S. Vogt, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan–All Saints Medical Center. Jane was born in Racine on August 12, 1938, daughter of the late John and Mary (nee: Stuelke) Kwas.
Jane had a fairly typical childhood as the eldest of nine children but at the age of 19 she decided to move to Germany; where she attended college and completed degrees in special education. She continued to learn and became fluent in several languages. In her younger years Jane enjoyed skiing both water and snow; she was a mountain climber and engaged in most sports including distance swimming at her family cottage in Door County. She collected old and forgotten dolls and returned them to their former beauty with new hairdos and period clothing. She also loved to read and play scrabble. She will be sadly missed.
Survivors include her siblings, John (Sandy) Kwas, Sue Rasmussen, Ann (Norm) Plunkett, Rosemary Oteman (Terry) Breidenbach, Joe (Sherry) Kwas, Bill Kwas, Rich (Cheryl) Kwas, Lisa Stewart; step-children, Jochen (Marliease) Vogt, Angelika (Bernd), both of Germany; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., on Monday, June 2, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Mark Jones officiating. Memorials to the Smile Train have been suggested.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Ryan Engel for all of his loving and compassionate care.
