Arthur Herbert Hilker

Arthur Herbert Hilker, 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 26, 2010. He was born in Racine on March 17, 1924, to the late Benjamin and Jennie (nee: Grabe) Hilker. He lived his whole life in Racine.

He was united in marriage to the former Betty Jane Parsons in Racine on June 3, 1949. He graduated from William Horlick High School, Class of 1942. He served in the United States Marine Corps Pacific Theater during World War II. He studied with Chicago Technical College to pursue his building trade. After working many years as a carpenter for other contractors, he established a partnership as Wynstra and Hilker Construction Co. then went into business for himself, as Hilker Construction Co., retiring in 2000.

He was a member of Racine Bible Church. Mr. Hilker was a faithful husband, father and grandfather who loved his family, providing for them and investing in their lives.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of 61 years; four children, Jonathan (Deborah) Hilker of Racine, Thomas (Susan) Hilker of Elkhorn, James (Linda) Hilker of Derry, NH, Julia (Kyle) Scantling of Racine; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Winnifred Johnson of Racine; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Racine Bible Church, 12505 Spring St., on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Miesel officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may meet with the family at the Wilson Funeral Home, 1212 Lathrop Ave., on Thursday evening Sept 30, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
