Monica F. Garbo (Schweitzer) Principe

Surrounded by her loving family, Monica F. Garbo Principe passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010, with her family by her side. Monica was born in Racine, January 29, 1921, daughter of the late Theodore N. and Emma (Nee: Benish) Schweitzer.

On August 3, 1940, at St. Rita Catholic Church she was united in marriage to Santo Garbo who preceded her in death, October 3, 1965. After her husband Santo passed away, Monica operated the family business, Garbo Motor Sales, retiring in 2008. On February 13, 1971, at St. Rita Catholic Church Monica was united in marriage to Frank S. Principe. She was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church. Monica devoted her life to her family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her husband, Frank; her children, Karen J. McBurney, Richard J. (Margaret) Garbo, Thomas S. (Karen) Garbo; her nine grandchildren, Carrie (Glen) O’Malley, Matthew (Amy) McBurney, Sally (James) Wedde, Robert J. (Nancy) Garbo, Elizabeth Giese, Lisa (Jay) Webb, Anthony (Brenda) Garbo, Jennifer (Jeffery) Shawhan, Steven T. Garbo; 14 great-grandchidren; brother, James F. Schweitzer; sister, Sr. Marcella Schweitzer O.S.F.; sister-in-law, Charlotte Schweitzer; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, John S. (Shirley) Garbo; son-in-law, A. James McBurney; sisters, Grace (George) Lennertz, Dorothy (Robert) Reed; brothers, Joseph (Millie) Schweitzer, and Theodore Schweitzer.

Private funeral services were held with interment at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.

Monica’s family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to her caregivers at Ridgewood for their loving and compassionate care.
