Lotte (Hofmeier) Lopez

Lotte (nee: Hofmeier) Lopez passed over to eternal everlasting peace at Lakeshore Manor September 18, 2010, with family at her side.

Lotte was born September 6, 1921, in Nuremberg, Germany, the only child of Johann and Barbara (nee: Volkl) Hofmeier. She spent her childhood and early adult life in Nuremberrg where she received her education and survived the horrors of World War II.

Following marriage to an American soldier during the American occupation of Bavaria in 1948, she immigrated to the United States, became a United States citizen, settled in Racine, and became the proud mother of two children.

Lotte took her role seriously as homemaker and mother and was always there for her children and grandchildren. She was a hard worker, employed as a seamstress until retiring at the age of 70.

Besides homemaking, Lotte had enjoyed gardening, trips to her beloved Germany, cooking Sunday dinners for the family, and playful conversation with the family dog. However, let’s not forget that in recent years her most favorite pastime was watching shows about dogs on Animal Planet.

Lotte is survived by her two children, Charlotte (nee: Lopez) Holguin of Racine and E. John Lopez of Greeneville, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Stephanie Holguin of Racine and Clarissa (Everitt) Siebern of Tucson, Arizona; one much -loved great-grandchild, Jacob Sayre, also of Tucson; and special pet dog Isis. Lotte was preceded in death by her parents, numerous relatives and friends in Germany, and friends in Racine.

There will be no visitation or services. Lotte will eventually return to her beloved Germany, which she always missed.

Lotte’s daughter would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Lakeshore Manor for their compassionate care during the last two years of Lotte’s life.
