David A. Meinert

David A. Meinert, age 62, sadly passed away unexpectedly from heart problems, Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at his residence. David was born in Racine, January 2, 1948, son of the late Elmer and Audrey (Nee: Heyer) Meinert.

David attended William Horlick High School. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army in the demilitarization effort while stationed in Korea. David, a journeyman machinist, worked at Gorton Machine Co., Racine Iron & Wire Works Inc., Maintenance Service Corp., Frank L. Wells Co., and at one time, he owned and operated Champion Trophy and Uniform in Racine. He recently retired after working for the Department of Defense at the Great Lakes Naval Base.

David had a great zest for life and love for his family. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers, a hobby that his two sons continued. A devoted, loving and adored father, he received great enjoyment from his involvement with his daughter’s violin lessons; time with the Kiltie Kadets; coaching her soccer, T-ball, softball and basketball teams; and encouraging her in furthering her education. He took pride in teaching his sons woodworking and carpentry, sharing his gun collection and talking about his proud service in the U.S. Army. He encouraged his children to always do their best. He loved sharing his many skills while working on his daughter and son-in-law’s house. Upon his recent retirement, he cherished spending time with his grandchildren, taking pictures with his new camera, spending time with his siblings, and dreaming about his retirement plans. For his family and friends, David would do anything. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his children, Cindy (Joseph) Scolaro of Mt. Prospect, IL, Daniel (Rachelle) Bethards of Brule, WI, Jeffrey (Julia) Bethards of Lake Nebagamon, WI; his grandchildren, Heather, Sarah and David Bethards, and Emily and Sofia Scolaro; brothers and sisters, Richard (Donna) Meinert, Patricia Durik (Earl Morgan), Peter (Carol) Meinert, Suzanne (late Gerald) Lamb, Linda Baer, Nancy Halbur, Diane (Dean) Turner; brother-in-law, Robert Cairns; nieces, nephews, many special relatives and dear friends.
