James A. Thurmann Sr.

With his family by his side, James A. Thurmann Sr., age 76, passed away Wednesday January 26, 2011, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital. James was born June 17, 1934, son of the late Henry and Olga (nee: Roedema) Thurmann.

He was a proud graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1952” and later served in the Air National Guard. Jim was employed with Twin Disc Inc. for over twenty years until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed his friends and time spent in Largo, FL, during his retirement years. Jim was a self -taught professional organist. In the past he would play at different venues including the Eagles Club, Giovanni’s Restaurant and the Elks Club in Florida. He was a member and a past senior counselor of the U.C.T. United Commercial Traveler’s Club. Jim had a passion for cars, especially his Jaguars and Excaliburs. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his dear friend and former spouse, LaVerne Thurmann; five children, James (Terri) Thurmann Jr., Vicky (Dan) Marohl, Jeffrey “Jeffro” (Cindy) Thurmann, Valerie (Edward) Otto, and Veronica Thurmann (Mark Jacox), all of Racine; grandchildren, Andrew Thurmann (fiancĂ©e, Heather Kreilkamp), Emily Thurmann, Eric Marohl, Peter (Jessica) Marohl, Anthony and Brandon Thurmann, Kristina Thurmann; great-grandchildren, Alaynna, Gregory, Isabella, and Isaiah; other relatives and many friends in Racine and Florida. Jim was also preceded in death by his brother, Henry.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at 4 p.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Saturday from 2 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. Memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.
