Orville 'Swede' L. Johnson

Orville “Swede” L. Johnson, age 82, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at Ridgewood Care Center. He was born in Fergus Falls, MN, on March 21, 1928, son of the late Nils A. and Alma O. (Nee: Peterson) Johnson.

During the Korean War, Swede served in the United States Army. On August 13, 1955, he was united in marriage to Donna L. Flint, who preceded him in death on September of 1995. Swede was President and CEO of the Cooperative Credit Union for twenty-nine years and served on the Board of Directors for ten years. He also served as President of the Racine Credit Bureau and past chairman on the board at Wisconsin Credit Union Insurance Corporation. Swede was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church. His pastimes included golfing, reading and walking. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his children, Cheryl (Walter) Hayek of Racine, Russell Dean (Claudia) Johnson of Brooklyn, NY; his six grandchildren, Steven and Brittney Hayek, Olivia Johnson, Michelle, Timothy, and Christopher Johnson; daughter-in-law, Nikki Johnson of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Terry Johnson; son, Dale Johnson; brothers and sisters, Marie Cline, Ralph Johnson, Harold Johnson and Florence Faunce.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 31, 2011, at 6 p.m. at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 212 11th St., with Rev. John Fleming officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the church from 5 p.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Evangelical United Methodist Church or to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.
