Walter W. Schulz, age 74, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at his residence. Walter was born in Durand, WI, August 25, 1936, son of the late William and Irma (Nee: Gueltzow) Schulz.
Walter retired after over twenty years of employment with Twin Disc. He was a member of VFW Post 1391, and the Harley Davidson Club. One of his pastimes and pride was his love of motorcycles. He owned a classic Harley motorcycle fully dressed. Throughout his life he owned several motorcycles and participated in many trips to Sturgis and other Harley activities. He loved to ride. He always kept busy -- this was his hobby. He worked on cars, maintenance of his home and other projects. He loved the challenge of figuring out things and was very good at it. He was very knowledgeable and skillful. You could always find him in the garage working on a project or two. Following high school he served in the United States Army as a mechanic. He was very proud of the six years he served and was very patriotic. He will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his children, Loralie A. Schulz, Nicholas A. Schulz; his six grandchildren, Candice, Justin, Chad, Ashley, Nicholas Jr., Sierra; his three great-grandchildren, Mah’kenzie Day, Johnathan Mycheal Burdo, Jayden Schulz; brother, Arthur (Pauline) Schulz; sisters, Bernice Knowles, Olivia Synder and Hilda Alderman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gregory W. Schulz; and his sisters, Verna Hotchkiss and Belva Schulz.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 21, 2011, at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend John Fleming officiating. Interment with full military honors will be follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday from 11 a.m. until time of service.
