Mt. Pleasant -- Roger O. Mills, 92, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, January 25, 2011.
Roger was born to Merris and Gertrude Mills on February 15, 1918, in Freeport, IL. At a very young age, the family moved to Racine. Roger was educated in Racine and in 1937 went to work at Modine Mfg. Co. In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in Europe during WWII. He was honorably discharged in the fall of 1945 and returned to work at Modine Mfg. Co where, he retired after 45 years of service. On June 28, 1947, he married Madeline “Mandy” Clausen at Holy Communion Lutheran Church.
Roger’s greatest joy was reading his Bible. He read it cover to cover many times. He also enjoyed working on his stamp collection, camping, fishing and gardening. Roger and Madeline were happily married for 63 years. They worshiped at Racine Bible Church for almost 30 years and then became members in January 2001. Roger worked often at the church on maintenance.
Roger is survived by his wife, Madeline; nephews, Bruce Mills, William and David Olson; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Jean Mills and Leona Severance; two brothers, David and William Mills.
Funeral services will be held at Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Miesel officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Private interment will be at Graceland Cemetery.
