Marlene Marie Huntley

Marlene M. Huntley, 73, passed away in Kenosha at the Aurora Medical Center on Tuesday, June 26, 2012.

Marlene was born in Racine to the late William and Marie (nee: Goetsch) Nadler on May 5, 1939. She lived in Racine for all of her life. She graduated with a teaching degree in 1961 from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. In Racine, at Evangelical United Methodist Church, Marlene was united in marriage to Daniel D. Huntley on October 20, 1962.

Mrs. Huntley started her working career as a first grade teacher with Racine Unified Schools.  After starting her family, and then with the loss of her husband, she resumed her working role as assistant manager at Open Pantry. She then took a job in downtown Racine at Doering Jewelry. She also opened That Deli Downtown.  In 1985 she resumed her teaching career with Racine Unified School District. Mrs. Huntley retired in 2001.

Marlene was a life member of Evangelical United Methodist Church. She was their children’s choir director for many years. She was also on the board of Downtown Racine Association. She was an avid reader, worked on crossword puzzles and loved music. Marlene was very passionate about her VW Beetle and enjoyed traveling to Shawano Lake and Door County. In her later years, she was constantly on Facebook and playing Farmville. Most importantly, Marlene loved her precious grandchildren. She was always involved in their lives and activities.

Marlene will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Carla Huntley and Kim (Richard) Garcia; three grandchildren, Emmett, Ethan and Kelly Garcia; and her special K-9 companion, Lady. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel D. Huntley, on August 23, 1970; her parents, William and Marie Nadler; and her in-laws, Rev. Laroy and Mildred Huntley.

Memorial services will be held at Evangelical United Methodist Church, 212 - 11th Street, on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Fleming officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church from noon until 2 p.m. service time. Memorials in honor of Marlene may be directed to the Racine Literacy Council (RLC).
