Maybell (Jackson) Henderson

Maybell Henderson, age 91, was silently called home on June 13, 2012.

Maybell was born June 9, 1921, to the late George and Nellie Jackson in Mississippi. She moved to Racine in 1973.

Maybell joined Greater St. Luke’s Baptist Church under the leadership of the late E.E. Woods. Maybell was a hard worker in the church as a kitchen helper and was a member of the usher board until her health failed. Maybell loved walking and spending time with her family and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henderson; parents, Nellie and George; son, John Jr.; four brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her her children, Rose Houston of Chicago, IL, J.W. Henderson of St. Louis, Ernestine Henderson of SD, Robert Henderson of NJ, Ruby (Oscar) Henderson, Beatrice (Lewis) Givens, Parmelia Stevenson; niece, Eliza Ward; and nephew, Isaac Johnson, all of Racine; 32 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; 39 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Gussie McGee of MS; and many other fond relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Greater St. Luke’s Baptist Church, 1326 State St., with Rev. Lawrence Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.
