Betty M. Heether, age 89, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center. Betty was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on February 19, 1924, daughter of the late Herold and Lydia (Nee: Nank) Jewell.
Very few people grow strong and wise, beautiful and warm, talented and caring. In 1943, as a Class–A riveter on B-17 and B-29s Betty was selected by Boeing Aircraft to have her picture taken and placed in planes for deployment during WWII.
Betty was an amazing dancer and for ten years after the war she taught and managed Arthur Murray Dance Studios around the country. Betty was employed by Nelson Inc. of Wisconsin for 26 years and rose to the position of Comptroller/Treasurer. She was a charter member of National Association of Women in Construction. Betty was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her son, Steven (Michele) Heether; six grandchildren, Traci (Brian) Meekma, Angel (Dave) Vinatieri, Michael Wm. (Becky) Heether, Stephanie (Aaron) Heether, Daniel Heether, Thomas Heether; eight great-grandchildren, Chris, Devyn, Rylee, Tai, Aeryn, Trent, Quinton and Caleb; brother, Daniel Jewell; sister, Phyllis (Robert) Moore; nieces, nephews, very special friends, Jessica Zdanowicz and Ginny Jensen; other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael R. Heether; sister-in-law, Sheryl Jewell; and sister, Joyce (James) DeMint.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013, at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Private interment will be held at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m. Memorials to Atonement Lutheran Church, the National Association of Women in Construction, or to the Women’s Resource Center have been suggested.
