Richard 'Swede' E. Swenson

Richard “Swede” E. Swenson, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at the Village of Manor Park, West Allis, WI. Richard was born in Gladstone, Michigan, on November 5, 1932, son of the late Olaf E. and Anna M. (Nee: Magnusson) Swenson.

During the Korean War he proudly served in the United States Army. On December 8, 1956, at St. Edward Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Patricia M. Yelle. Throughout his career Richard was employed by Gorton Machine, Lars Machine, and retired from Famco of Kenosha.

He was a member of the VFW Post 1391. Dick was a great sports enthusiast. He was a huge fan of the Packers, high school and college sports. He was an avid golfer and his sports highlights were achieving “two holes in one.” He also enjoyed woodworking and refinishing furniture. More than anything he cherished time with his family and was very proud of them. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-six years, Patricia; his children, Theresa (John) Grumbine, James Swenson, Sandi Swenson (Jay Rhodes), Laura (Clayton) Young, Carol Swenson (Raymond Burandt), Douglas (Tina) Swenson; twelve grandchildren, Stephanie (Scott), Chad, Dustin, Randy (Katie), Garret, Sean, Brandon, Juliana, Sedona, Hannah, Faith, Adam; three great-grandchildren, Lucas, Lanalee and Landon; patiently waiting on #4 due in December; brother, Loyal (Ellen) Swenson; sisters, Violet Christiansen, Virginia Koenig; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Noble Swenson; sister and brothers-in-law, Thelma (Francis) Gobert, Don Koenig and Harlon Christiansen.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013, at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Tony Larsen officiating. Private interment will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until time of service at 4:30 p.m.
