Donald A. Nelson

Arkdale -- Donald A. Nelson, age 80, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at Villa Pines Living Center in Friendship, WI.  Donald was born in Racine on September 1, 1932, son of the late Otto and Anna (nee: Mortzfeld) Nelson

During the Korean War, Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army while stationed in Germany.  On September 15, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Lonergan. They were married nearly forty-five years before Kathleen preceded him in death on March 29, 2001. Donald was employed as a lithographer through the years with Angel Lithography, Nelson Negative Service, Doyle-Handymark, the Highlighter and last with Western Publishing before he retired.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion Post 494, Dania Hall and Amalgamated Lithographers of America. In his spare time, Don enjoyed hunting and fishing and his time up north.  He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his children, Cynthia Nelson (Robert Kohel) of Racine, Sharon Nelson of Burlington, Kara (Bruce) Toutant of Eland, Steven (Rita) Nelson of Racine, Michael Nelson of Burlington; grandchildren, Linea McCluskey, Jodi (Dan) Wise, Sadie Kohel, Allison Kohel, Gregory Capoun, Lindsay Capoun, Kelsi Cesarz, Shara Toutant, Lauren Toutant (fiancé, Brandon Kaplan), Stevie Nelson, Matthew Nelson; nine great-grandchildren; fiancée, Willanetta “Willie” Kittel; his beloved dog, Sassy; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, Duke (Faye) Lonergan, Patricia Lonergan, Myrtle (Bernie) Wade; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  In addition to his parents and wife, Don was also preceded in death by his grandson, Devin Cesarz; sister, Elaine Fergus; brother, Robert Nelson; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rose and Frank Lonergan.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday August 12, 2013, at 7 p.m., with Rev. Steve Varghese officiating.  Interment with Full Military Honors will be held on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Monday from 4 p.m. until time of service.
