Vera Walter, age 92, passed away on Friday August 2, 2013, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Vera was born in South Milwaukee on January 11, 1921, daughter of of the late Spaso “Sam” and Rista (nee: Dragovich) Laketa.
On October 24, 1942, in Chicago, Vera was united in marriage to the love of her life, Albert E. Walter Sr. After thirty years together, Albert preceded her in death on May 21, 1972. Vera was employed at Southern Colony as a nurse’s aide for twenty-six years. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, gardening and karaoke. Above all, it was her family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that gave her the most joy. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her children, Albert (Suzanne) Walter of Richland Center, Gary (Marie) Walter of Houston, MN; Wendy (Harry) Jacobsen, of Racine; son-in-law, John Terwilliger of Twin Lakes; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild with one soon to be born; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Vera was also preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Terwilliger; brothers, George (Rose), Nick (Lillian) and Danny; sister, Nada (Conrad) Lamping; grandson, Leonard; and nephew, Sam Laketa
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday August 7, 2013, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.
Memorials to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.
