Russell Duncan Sorenson, age 89, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Parkside Manor, Kenosha. He was born in Racine on August 29, 1924 son of the late Ned and Esther (Nee: Rasmussen) Sorenson.
Russell served as a corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, stationed in the South Pacific. On April 3, 1948, he was united in marriage to Dorothy B. Hoffman. He was employed as an auto body painter for many years. Russell enjoyed racing and raced anything on wheels until the age of 62. He also enjoyed coffee klatches with the boys at George Webb. He will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Dorothy; sons, Scott (Donna) Sorenson of Sturtevant, Rusty (Sherry) Sorenson of Kenosha; his daughter, Linda M. Kwapil of Austin, TX; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene (Dolores) Sorenson of Racine; other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Shandly.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, Hwy C, Dover, on Monday, February 24, 2014, at 1 p.m. for a military honors service. A reception will follow at American Legion Post 552 on Hwy E in Somers. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Assn. have been suggested
