John Fred Praeger, Sr., 77, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Sunday, February 21, 2010.
Fred was born in Racine on September 1, 1932, to David and Julia (nee, Wiegel) Praeger. He married the former Shirley Arney. Fred married his second wife, the former Patricia Peters, who preceded him in death. He retired from Harris Metals after more than 35 years.
Fred was a founding member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. He loved his church and was a very proud member. He was an avid Packer fan and loved to gamble, especially taking trips, and was a “scratch off” addict. Fred loved and adored his children and grandchildren. He was always there when anyone needed him and would have done anything for them.
Fred is survived by his children, Kathy (Tim) DeGarmo, John Praeger, Jr. and Jerry (Felicia) Praeger, and their mother, Shirley Praeger; step-children, Ray Peters, Jackie Cowell and Tiffany (Jeff) Slaasted; grandchildren, Ann DeGarmo, Thomas DeGarmo and Andi (Marie) Praeger; numerous step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Madden and Julie (Emil) Ruffalo; and special companion, Jane Malonee. Fred is also survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Otto, Dave, Jerry, Hank and Otto A.; and sister, Dorothy.
Funeral services for Fred will be held at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 1015 Four Mile Road, on Friday, February 26, 2010, at 6 p.m. with Rev. Michael Mueller officiating. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of services. Memorials to St. Andrew Lutheran Church have been suggested.
