“Polly” Margaret T. (nee: Welch) Strak, passed away on Sunday February 28, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints. Polly was born in Pomfret, Maryland, on July 28, 1941, the daughter of Archie and Hazel (nee: Wenk) Welch. She was united in marriage to Thomas Strak in Pomfret, Maryland.
Polly was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church, Kenosha Car Club and Classic Cruisers of Racine, Wendy’s Group Club, and former member of Racine Moose Lodge. She was employed at St. Monica’s for more than fifteen years and DeRango’s on Six Mile for over five years. Polly found great enjoyment in playing Bingo, the Brewers and the Yankees, in addition to cooking and camping.
Polly is survived by her husband, Tom; children, Gail (Ernie) Petrowsky, Teresa Williams, Susan Flick, Damian (Charlotte) Strak, and Leonard Strak, all of Racine. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, Erica, ShaiAnn, Joseph, Kyle, Ashley, Brianna, Chelesa, Cody and Brandon; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph (Dee) Welch; three sisters, Margie Welch, Barbara Jean ( John) Begovich, Linda Welch; sister-in-law, Linda Welch.
Polly is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two children, Thomas Jr. and Inez, and one brother, Lee Welch.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave., with Rev. Ray Elam O.S.A. officiating. Entombment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Highway 32. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday March 3, 2010, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. and visitation at church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of mass at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Cancer Center, 1320 Wisconsin Ave., Racine, WI 53403 have been suggested by the family.
The Strak family would like to extend a very special thank you to all the nurses, CNA and staff at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints for the fine care and compassion Polly received.
