William Robert (Bob) Jennings, 90, passed away on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Becker-Shoop Center. He was born March 31, 1919, to Isabel Pennycook Jennings and W. Rex Jennings in Bay City, Michigan. He graduated from West High, Waterloo, Iowa. He received a B.S. in Architectural Engineering from Iowa State University and was a registered architect and Fellow Emeritus of the American Institute of Architects.
On June 27, 1942, he was married to Lucille Hartberg at Newport News, Virginia, where he worked in the Hull Design Division of Newport News Ship Building and Dry Dock Co. During World War II he served as a radio technician in the U.S. Navy. After his honorable discharge, in 1946, the Jennings moved to Racine where he was employed by Frank Hoffman, Architects. He later became a partner in the firm Jennings and Naczinski, Architects. They designed many buildings in Racine and for the state. He enjoyed seeing his designs as represented in the Racine Theater Guild, Twin Disc, Modine and Case Company, among others.
Bob took an active part in community affairs. He was past president and Emeritus member of the Curative Workshop Board. He acted on the Mayor’s Board of Appeals, the Landmarks Commission and Preservation Racine. He served on the Wustum Museum board, as a life member of Lincoln Lutheran Auxiliary and was the past chairman of the Racine Planning Commission. He volunteered as a Boy Scout troop leader and delivered Meals on Wheels. As a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, he enjoyed the Men’s Breakfast Group Studies.
Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Lucy; daughter Mary (Jim) Barcio of West Chester, PA; and sons, James (Marcy) Jennings of Baileys Harbor, WI, and Andrew Jennings of Racine, WI; grandchildren, Heather (Michael) Barcio- Solon, Amy (Joseph) Groller, Scott Schultz and Robert (Sara) Schultz; and great-grandchildren, Sean Parker Schultz and Holden Joseph Groller, Macy, Max and Samuel Schultz, Seamus and Shannon Solon, Alexandra, Michael and Jacob Barcio; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce; parents; parents in-law; and grandson, Anthony Barcio.
Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, February 19, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Warren Williams officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Friday before services from 10 a.m. until service time.
