Robert E. 'Bob' Arndt

Robert E. “Bob” Arndt, age 88, passed away Friday morning, February 12, 2010, at his residence. Robert was born in Milwaukee July 15, 1921, son of the late George and Lyla (nee: Haertel) Arndt.

Robert proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Furthering his education, he received his Master's degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Elaine Bennick, on August 23, 1953, at St. Benedict Church in Blue Island, IL; they have shared fifty-six beautiful years together.

Bob was employed with Walker Mfg. (later Tenneco) for over twenty years until his retirement in 1981. He enjoyed his many travels to national parks and through the country with Elaine. A man with a great mind and intellect, Bob loved reading and studying many different topics. He greatly enjoyed his time spent with his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife, Elaine, of Caledonia; son, James (Debra) Arndt of Caledonia; daughter, Jean (James) Dewinski of Riverside, IL; grandchildren, Ashley Arndt of New York City, NY, and Gary Arndt of Caledonia; nephew, Robert (Cynthia) Gruenwald; nieces, Ellen (Paul) Messner and Amy (John) Johnson; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Susan, in 1976; and his sister and brother-in-law, Louise (Earl) Gruenwald.

Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 1015 4 Mile Road, on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. Michael Mueller officiating. Interment will be held at Wisconsin Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials to St. Andrew Lutheran Church have been suggested.

The family extends a special thank you to Bob’s caregiver, Zana, for all of her loving and compassionate care.
