Mike Saavedra, age 75, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Mike was born in Texas, October 11, 1934, son of the late Margarito and Cruz (Nee: Gonzales) Saavedra.
On October 31, 1953, in Elkhorn, WI, he was united in marriage to Nancy L. Brisko. Mike was employed by American Motors Corporation for thirty-two years, retiring in 1986. He was actively involved with the Eagles Club Aerie 281, serving as member, Past President and Vice President. Mike was an accomplished musician who loved playing with his band, “Mike Saavedra and the Travelers,” and played in taverns and for many weddings in the Racine, Kenosha and Milwaukee area. In 1959 Mike placed first in the local talent contest just ahead of Barbara McNair. He coached Little League Lake Park Cardinals for many years. Mike enjoyed playing on several dartball and bowling leagues. Above all he treasured time spent with his family and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-six years, Nancy; his son, Randy (Cindy) Saavedra; his daughter, Lynn Saavedra; his grandchildren, Sarah (Tony) Eschmann, Tracey (Derrick) Dal Santo, Steven (Nicole) Saavedra, Scott Saavedra (fiancé, Tori), Ryan Saavedra; three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Carter and Bailee; brothers and sisters, Esther (Paul) Bishop, Anne Beckett, Mickey Saavedra, Frank Rodriguez; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barbara (Don) Bednar, Sam (Jeaneen) Brisko, Bill Beckett; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Mike Saavedra Jr.; sisters, Lupe Braun and Josie Beckett.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 15, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Kathy Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. (Eagle Prayer Service at 5 p.m.) and Monday at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until time of service.
