Ethel C. Kasvin

Ethel Catherine Kasvin, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at United Hospital System in Kenosha, WI, as a result of complications due to a recent fall. A lifetime resident, Ethel was born in Racine on December 18, 1923, to the late Andrew and Elizabeth (nee: Martocko) Kasvin.

Ethel attended Stephen Bull Elementary School, Franklin Junior High School and Washington Park High School. During her high school years, she volunteered at St. Mary’s Hospital as a nurse’s aide. Ethel’s post-educational years were spent working at Western Publishing Company, where she worked until her retirement in 1990. She thoroughly enjoyed her position as Secretary in the purchasing department that led to a promotion as Assistant Buyer in her later years of employment.

She was a life-long member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church until consolidation with St. Richard's Parish. She was an active member of the Holy Trinity Choir, and was a Eucharist Minister and mass preparation volunteer for many years at St. Richard’s. She also volunteered at the Marian Center for many years. Ethel was an unassuming, charitable Christian who was an ongoing supporter of her parish, charitable and military veterans organizations.

Her hobbies and interests included family, golfing, bowling, baking and playing bridge every Saturday night with her dear friends. She was an active member of the Washington Park Golf League for many years, trying to get nine holes in during the summer every evening after work.

Surviving are her nephews and nieces , Robert T. (Karen) Kohlman, Patricia M. (John) Mand, William D. Kohlman, all of Racine, Thomas G. Kasvin of Cincinnati, Ohio; Richard H. (Alexis) Kasvin of Chicago, IL; Christopher Kasvin of Lakewood, CO; Mary Kasvin of Arvada, CO; and a great-nephew and nieces. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Harry R. (Lorraine) Kasvin; and her sister and brother-in-law, Helen J. (Theodore) Kohlman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 3, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St. Richard's Catholic Church, 1509 Grand Ave., with Rev. Ron Gramza officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10 a.m. Private interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Memorials to St. Richards Parish have been suggested.

The family would like to especially thank Nancy Dudley for all that she has done for Ethel and her family over the years; along with Fr. Ron Gramza, Deacon Howard Wirtz, Joann Zlevor, and Linda and Jim Haack from St. Richard’s Parish. Also to be thanked is the emergency room staff at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Center; the staff at ManorCare Health Services in Kenosha, WI; and the emergency room staff, Pastor David Baugher, and nurses Sylvia and Amber at United Hospital System in Kenosha for their loving and compassionate care of Ethel in her time of need.
