Helen Irene (Schuster) Peters

Helen Irene Peters, age 96, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Helen was born in Racine August 1, 1915, daughter of the late John and Mary (nee: Ripson) Schuster and had been a lifelong resident.

On November 21, 1940, Helen was united in marriage to Joseph P. Peters at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. They shared sixty-three beautiful years together before Joe passed away on May 20, 2004. Helen devoted her time to raising and caring for her children. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bridge, golfing and her travels throughout the states including Florida, Colorado and Hawaii and Europe with her husband. She will be remembered as the best mom ever, and a fantastic grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her daughters, JoAnn (James) Gilmore of Milwaukee, Jacqueline “Jackie” (Ludwig) Hairapetian of Racine; seven grandchildren, Laurie (Ernie) Tanel, Cindy (Eric) Windschanz, Steve (Mary) Gilmore, Jimmy Gilmore, Anne (Tade) Gerischer, Jenny Martinez, Sarah (Luis) Delgado; ten great-grandchildren, Andy and Kevin Tanel, Jared and Evan Windschanz, Adriana and Emma Martinez, Tade “LT” and Wyatt Gerischer, Isabel and Antonio Delgado; brother, Robert Schuster of Racine; sisters-in-law, Carol Schuster of Racine, Virginia Schuster of Hayward; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was also preceded in death by her son, Rick Peters; and by her other twelve siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Sean Granger officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Monday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

The family extends a special thank you to Helen's caregiver from Rescare, Jackie, and to Dr. Zablotney and the nurses and staff at Wheaton Franciscan-All saints for all of their loving and compassionate care.
