Joseph G. Maio

Joseph G. Maio, 86, passed away at his home on Saturday, September 17, 2011.

Joseph was born in Milwaukee to the late Joseph and Mary (nee: Vento) Maio on May 25, 1925. He lived in the Milwaukee area for most of his life and in Racine for the past seven years.

Mr. Maio served in the United States Army during World War II. He then started his employment at a makeup company where he met Emily Stazak. He married Emily on June 25, 1949, at St. John Kanty Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Mr. Maio also worked at Milprint Company, General Split Manufacturing, Sight & Sound Company, and JC Penney Company, all as a supervisor. He retired from the Holiday Inn as a driver.

Mr. Maio was a former member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church in South Milwaukee, where he served as an usher. In Racine, he was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church. Joseph was a natural leader and a people person. He was an excellent manager and a notorious jokester. He served as past president or officer for many organizations including Knights of Columbus, Pompeii Men’s Club, AMVETS and the Traffic Manager’s Club. He was also a volunteer Santa Claus at the South Milwaukee Senior Center for many years. Joseph was an avid bowler and Green Bay Packer fan.

Joseph is very loved by his son, Randy (Nancy) Maio; grandsons, Dominic and Justin; and one brother, Matt Maio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily; and three brothers, Tony, John and Frank.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave., on Monday, September 26, 2011, at 11a.m. with Fr. Kevin Mullins celebrating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Adalbert Catholic Cemetery in Milwaukee with full military honors.
