Timothy Dale Smith

Timothy D. Smith went home to be with the Lord on September 20, 2011.

Tim was born in Racine to Glen and Edna (nee: Nordentoft) Smith on March 31, 1943. He lived in Racine all of his life.

Tim started his working career as a child at age 10 shining shoes at the North Shore Train Station and delivering newspapers for the Racine Journal Times. He then worked for Geoghan Tire and Huber Drug Store in West Racine before graduating from Washington Park High School in 1962. After graduating, he was employed by J.I. Case Company until his best friend (of 51 years) Ron Frye graduated so they could attend Olivet Nazarene College (ONC) together. Tim was there for one semester when he received his calling to become a police officer. This is also the time when he proposed marriage to his high school sweetheart, Barbara J. Roberts. They were united in marriage at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Racine on August 21, 1965.

Tim worked for the City of Racine Police Department as a Juvenile Investigator for 25 years. He also worked security for William Horlick High School as the police liaison. Tim retired from police work in 1995 after 30 years of service to the community of Racine. Between 1997 and 2006 he worked for the Racine Unified School District as the Expulsion Hearing Officer. During that same time he also worked at Child Harbor Daycare at Fellowship of Christian Believers, Countryside Humane Society and again at the Racine Journal Times. Tim did much volunteer work as well. He volunteered his time with the Racine County Sheriff’s Department Substation, Meals on Wheels and the American Red Cross.

Tim loved to sing. He was a great 1st Tenor for the Park High School Acapella Choir, was a member of the Vikings Male Chorus at ONC and was involved in many church choirs and quartets. He enjoyed fishing and motorcycling. He was an eloquent writer and wrote poems for many events. Tim was a caring, compassionate, generous man with a wonderful sense of humor everyone enjoyed. He was an animal lover as well. But most importantly, Tim loved and cherished time spent with his family and friends. His grandchildren were the light in his life.

Tim will be dearly missed by his wife of 46 years, Barbara; one son, Steven (Danielle) Smith; one daughter, Lisa (Corey) Bell of Bourbonnais, IL; his grandchildren, Whitney, Danielle, Brianna, Trevor, Monica, Jared and Evan; special nieces and nephew, Laura (Michael) Eisel and their children, Alexis and Mikayla, Cathy (Ron) Thick of Michigan and their child, Joshua, Jeff (Aimee) Smith and their children, Sara and Kala, Caren (Joe) Larabee and their children, Christopher and Alex, Camille (Carl) Fletcher and their children, Caitlin, Camryn, Carly and Cara; great-great-niece and nephew, Abigail and Leo Jr.; his aunt, Esther Royse; cousins, Donna (Ron) Frye, Dan Geeding, Harry, David and Dennis Nordentoft and Jim, Edward and Dawn Smith and all of their families, and Janice (Floyd) Schmidt; one sister-in-law, Linda (Randy) Eisel;  his loyal companion, Maggie, AKA Pudgy Pug; and other relatives and numerous friends including the current and retired police officers. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Paul W. Smith; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Thomas Glyn and Mable Roberts.
