Dolores Fuentes

Mrs. Dolores Fuentes, 52, was called home on Monday, February 20, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints.

Dolores was born in Racine to Manuel and Hortencia (nee Salas) Avila on June 17, 1959. She lived in Racine all her life. She was united in marriage to Alfredo Fuentes on August 20, 1988.

Dolores graduated from J.I. Case High School. Because she was a smart lady and loved to learn and help people, she went on to college at Gateway Technical College for social work. She was employed at the Racine Community Action Agency and later at Home Day Care Provider. She retired due to illness.

Dolores was a member of Jesus Alive Ministries and also a long-time member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church. She loved to read the Bible and Scriptures to her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dolores was a jokester and a people person. She enjoyed playing darts and pool. Most importantly, she loved and cared for the “whole” family. Because she was the oldest of her siblings, she was like a second mother to her nieces and nephews.

Dolores is survived by her husband, Alfredo; two children, Jose (Melisa) Torrez and Esperanza Fuentes; seven grandchildren, Alexandra, Joana, Anthony, LiliAna, Alana, Milayna and a grandson on the way, Louciano; her brothers and sisters, Anna (Samuel) Torres, Frances Avila, Esther (Armando) Martinez, Andy Avila, Roseann (Ralph) Martinez and Manuel (Veronica) Salinas; her mother, Hortencia Avila; 19 nieces and nephews; 53 great-nieces and great-nephews; her best friends, Linda Rodriguez, Silvia Cruz and Silvia Gonzalez; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Manuel Avila; her grandparents, Pablo (Teodosia) Avila and Valente (Josephina) Salas; her dear uncle, Steve; and a great-niece, Faith Torres.

Funeral service will be held at The Racine Family Worship Center, 1848 Mead St., on Tuesday morning, February 28, 2012, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Guadalupe Torres Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the Wilson Funeral Home on Monday evening, February 27, 2012, from 5 until 8 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7 p.m. Visitation will also take place at the church on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
