Jerry I. 'Opa' Coon

Greendale, WI -- Jerry I. “Opa” Coon, of Greendale, was born into eternal life on February 10, 2012.

He was born to Sidney and Mabel Coon in Albia, IA, on Dec. 15, 1931. Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was stationed in Germany when he fell in love with Wanda Suchanek. They married in December 1953.

Upon their return to the United States, Jerry worked at a local meat packing plant. Later, they moved their family to Milwaukee, where Jerry was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Burl, Charles, Robert and Monte.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda; children, Frank (Julie), William (Wendy), Ronald, Cindy (Steven) Davis; and grandchildren, Shane (Heather), Alex, Adam, Jordan, Andrew, Chelsea and Catey Coon, Steven Davis and Angela (Andrew) Becker. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Delores Coon; daughter-in-law, Laura Sumner Coon; great-granddaughter, Alaya Bradford-Coon; and many nieces and nephews, family and friends.

A Memorial service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 16, 2012, at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Union Grove. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Disabled American Veterans or the Milwaukee Rescue Mission.
