Sister Ione (Francis Marie) Forga, O.P.

Sister Ione Forga, O.P., 99, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine, WI, on Wednesday, February 8, 2012.

Ione Eunice Forga was born October 26, 1912, to Frank and Elizabeth (nee: Ryan) Forga in Rice Lake, WI. On August 15, 1928, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1929 she was given the religious name Sister Francis Marie. She professed her first vows in 1931 and her final vows in 1937. In 1970 she returned to using her baptismal name, Ione.

Sister Ione spent many years in service to others in education as a teacher and principal. She also did secretarial work. She began her ministry at St. Patrick School, Racine. She taught at St. Catherine High School and Dominican College in Racine. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were Holy Angels, St. Benedict the Moor and the Archdiocesan Office of Religious Education, Milwaukee; St. Mary, Mineral Point; St. John High School, Little Chute; Holy Cross, Kaukauna; and Sacred Heart Seminary, Hales Corner. She also served in Michigan and New Mexico. She moved to Siena Center in 1982. In December 2006 she became a resident of Lakeshore Manor, Racine.

Sister Ione is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates, a niece and two nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Floyd; and sister, Lorraine Dineen.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Monday, February 13, 2012, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
