Jay E. Voss

Surrounded by his loving family, Jay E. Voss, age 76, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan–All Saints Medical Center. Jay was born in Racine, October 21, 1935, son of the late Ewald and Anita (Nee: Schimmelphening) Voss.

Jay attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served in the United States Naval Reserves for ten years. On June 21, 1958, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Racine, he was united in marriage to Jane E. Spurgat. He was employed as Vice President of Sales at Pickard Inc for thirty-three years. Jay was a member of the Lutheran Chapel of the Cross and served as president of the Board of Mariner IV for many years. An avid golfer, Jay also enjoyed fishing in his spare time. More than anything, he cherished time spent with his family. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-three years, Jane; his children, Heather Voss of Appleton, Shawn (Kim) Voss of Racine, Holly (Randy) Fahnrich of Racine, Heidi (Jim) Heagle of Appleton; his eight grandchildren, Cameron Voss (fiancée, Gina Yi), Katelyn (Ryan) Bodnar, Amy Clausen, Nicholas Fahnrich, Connor Fahnrich, Colten Heagle, Jared Heagle, Lindsay Heagle; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Helen (Paul) Strahl of Oregon, David (Dorothy) Spurgat of Whitewater, Sally Spurgat of Racine, Robert Hall of VA; niece, Susan (Ed) Chun; nephews, Peter Strahl, David Voss, both of Oregon; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David; and sister-in-law, Suzanne Hall.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 10, 2012, at noon at Lutheran Chapel of the Cross, 1426 Fancher Road, Racine, with Rev. Brian Liermann officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at noon. Private interment will be held. Memorials to the Lutheran Chapel of the Cross or to Racine Lutheran High School have been suggested.
