Elmer J. Rose

Elmer J. Rose, age 89, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center.  Elmer was born in Manitowoc, WI, on June 3, 1925, son of the late Arthur and Emma (Nee:  Haberly) Rose.

He proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II stationed in the European Theatre and participated in the invasion of Normandy.  On August 28, 1948, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Margaret C. Shinkunas, who preceded him in death on April 19, 2013.  Elmer was employed by Walker Manufacturing for many years as a tool and die maker.  He was a longtime member of St. Rita Catholic Church.  Elmer loved to tinker and was continuously creating new inventions. More than anything, it was the time spent with his family that he treasured the most.  He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his children, Scott (Sheri) Rose of Madison, Kevin (Kendra) Rose of Burlington, Mark (Ann) Rose of Racine, Teresa (Patrick) Mullaney of LaCrosse; 12 grandchildren, Megan (Tom) Thornburgh, Adam Rose, Kasey, Kaleb and Kourtney Rose, Elizabeth and Harrison Rose, Ryan, Peter, Joseph, Dan, and Molly Mullaney;  great-grandchildren, Lillian and Oliver Thornburgh; brothers-in-law, John Shinkunas of Rosholt, WI, Harvey Mikulecky of Oconomowoc; sister-in-law, Joan Rose of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.  In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his brother, Lester; and sisters, Gladys Werk and Arlene Sorensen.

Private services with Full Military Honors will be held, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Wheaton Franciscan Hospice, St. Rita’s Catholic Church or one's favorite charity have been suggested.
