Marion E. (Kaplan) George

With her loving family by her side, Marion E. George, age 89, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center.   Marion was born in Racine on May 21, 1925, daughter of the late John E. and Gertrude A. (Nee: Schliesmann) Kaplan.

On August 17, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church she was united in marriage to John W. George Sr., who preceded her in death on March 3, 2003.  She was employed by Hamilton Beach for a few years, last working at J.C. Penney in the fabric department.

Always very involved with her children, Marion was a Girl Scout Leader and Den Leader. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, reading and visiting with all of her friends at Roosters. She will be remembered fondly for her love and devotion to her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored, and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her seven children, John George Jr. of Racine, Bernard (Cindy) George of Lake Worth, FL, Gertrude Ann George of Racine, Tom (Anne) George of Coon Rapids, MN, Michele (Tom) Werk, Paula (Byron) Nelson II, Bruce George, all of Racine; her twelve grandchildren, Tom (Katie) Werk, Todd (Jaceena) Werk, Matthew George, Hilary (Dan) Piotrowski,  Allison George, Chris (Alicia) George, Ryan (Jessica) George, Alyssa (Peter) Meier, Megan George (fiancé, Brian Follick), Emily Nelson, Kaitlyn Nelson (fiancé, Kyle Ebersole), Byron Nelson III;  great-grandchildren, Daniel, Amelia “Milly,” and Andrew Werk, Zuzu Marie Werk, Anna and Adam Piotrowski, Conner and Claire George, Adeline and Emma George, Owen and Jace Meier; brothers George (Bev) Kaplan,  John Kaplan; sister-in-law, Maryann Kaplan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Rebecca Rose Nelson; brother, Jim; and sister-in-law, Charlene Kaplan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., on Friday, June 27, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Steve Varghese officiating.  Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Thursday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. Memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.

The family extends a special thank you to the staffs at Ridgewood Care Center, the Adult Day Service at Lincoln Lutheran and WF-All Saints Hospice for all your care, and to Marion’s neighbor, Rudy Barrientez, for all of his help and acts of kindness through the years.
