Ann B. (Linkowsky) Schmidt

Ann B. Schmidt, age 96, passed away Friday, November 12, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. She was born in Racine, January 31, 1914 daughter of the late Egnas and Felicia (Nee:Butkus) Linkowsky.

Ann graduated from Washington Park High School “Class of 1932.” On November 9, 1940, at Dubuque, IA, she was united in marriage to Erwin E. Schmidt, who preceded her in death December 5, 1968. Ann was employed as a secretary at Massey Ferguson, Carpenter and Roland and retired from Racine Unified School District in 1983 after 25 years. At RUSD she had last worked as a secretary at Washington Jr High School, Jerstad-Agerholm and William Horlick High School. Ann was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of Horlick Retirees HaHa Club, a member and president of Gateway Homemakers Club and was a Lithuanian interpreter for the Racine Public Library. She was a passionate Brewer and Packer fan, liked to sew, knit, crochet, garden, and spend time at her cabin in Crivitz. Ann was an avid bowler in the Lutheran Ladies League and the Paradise West Damsels until the age of 90. Above all she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are a son, Fredric (RuthAnn) Schmidt; a daughter, Laurie Giese; seven grandchildren, Bryon (Carri) Schmidt, Kristin (John) Avery, Anthony Schmidt, Jerry “Mike” (Sandy) Schmidt, Scot Giese, Kyle Giese, Mitchell Giese; eight great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Alexandra, Caleb, Megan, Zach, Ella, Gwendolyn, and Mason; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Jerry G. Schmidt in 1997.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at 11:30 a.m.

Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church Shelter/Share 2065 Geneva St, Racine WI 53402 have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to neighbors Jack and Colleen Verwey for watching over Mom all these years, also to the nursing staff on 2D at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital, especially Jennifer and Darlene and to the Wheaton Franciscan Hospice.
