Joyce E. (Malcolm) Scantling

Joyce E. Scantling, age 76, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. She was born in Racine, February 23, 1934, daughter of the late Peter and Wanda Malcolm.

Joyce graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1952.” On August 30, 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald L. Scantling. Through the years she worked as a LPN at St. Luke’s Hospital, in Dr. Smollen’s office, and last worked privately. Joyce was a member of the 5th Street Yacht Club and the Moose Lodge. She volunteered with Big Sisters, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, casino tripsand lottery tickets. Always involved with politics, Joyce enjoyed a good debate, contacting her representatives when needed and voicing her opinion through letters to the editor. She will be remembered fondly for her cooking and meals centered around family and holiday gatherings.

Joyce will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 54 years, Don; son, Kyle (Julia) Scantling of Racine; grandchildren, Ahnna (Matt) Thornton, Lauren Scantling, Kevin Scantling; a great-grandson, Matthew Thornton, all of Racine; sisters-in-law, June Wight of Kenosha, Ann Scantling of Racine; the Adamski and Schultz Families, her St. Catherine’s Classmates; nieces, nephew, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her daughter, Stacy.

Private services with interment will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
