Sara J. Jensen

San Antonio, TX -- Sara Jensen was welcomed into God’s arms November 10, 2010.

She was born Sara Jane Brown on April 26, 1922, in Hagerstown, MD, where her ancestors had settled in the early 1700s, and she grew up in a row house in Baltimore. In 1945, Sara met a young soldier from Wisconsin at a USO dance in Baltimore. Bill Jensen soon became the love of her life. They married just before he shipped out and when he returned stateside they moved to his hometown of Racine, WI, where they resided together for 58 years. In Racine, Sara was a faithful member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church, and a hospital auxiliary volunteer at All Saints Hospital for 35 years.

After Bill’s death in 2004, Sara moved to San Antonio to be near her daughters and grandchildren, Sandy (Tom) Taylor of Richmond, TX, Kim (Micheal) Marinelli of San Antonio, and grandchildren Matthew (13) and Katie (10) Marinelli. This was a new chapter in Sara’s life, embraced by family who had always lived so far away.

Sara was a much loved mother, grandmother and friend. She loved gardening and was delighted to discover that the mild San Antonio climate allowed her to grow outdoor flowers year-'round. Her beautiful yard was enjoyed by the many friends and neighbors in her community. Sara’s home was always a bright, cheery place, with music playing in the kitchen and African violets in the windowsills. She loved card games, especially bridge, and learned to play duplicate bridge after moving to Texas. Sara loved songbirds and had an enviable collection of sweaters. She was cherished by all who knew her and will be deeply missed.

A brief memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 16, at the chapel at West Lawn Memorial Park, before Sara is laid to rest beside her dear Bill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
