Richard M. Braun

Richard M. Braun, age 87, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Richard was born in Racine, July 8, 1923, son of the late Mathias and Mary (Nee: Harvey) Braun.

During World War II, Richard proudly served in the United States Army in the European Theatre. He was the recipient of two Bronze Battle Stars and four overseas Service Stars for his participation in the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. On July 15, 1950, at St. Patrick Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Emma M. DeRose. Richard was employed by Modine Manufacturing for thirty-six years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Modine’s “20 Year Club.” For many years Richard enjoyed volunteering for Toys for Tots. Richard was a kind man who loved woodworking, playing pool and chess. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty years, Emma; sisters and brothers, Lorraine Jensen, Lawrence Braun, Irene Dvorak, James (Donna) Braun; sister-in-law, Margaret Aiello; brother-in-law, Vince Mordja; 51 nieces and nephews; special friend, Mark Miller; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Braun; sister, LaVerne Mordja; sisters-in-law, Emilia Gallo, Lena Carravetta, Charlotte Fojtik, Julia Richter, Rose Biro; brother-in-law, Anthony DeRose.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., with Rev. John D. Aiello officiating. Entombment with Full Military Honors will follow at Calvary Garden Crypts. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:30 a.m. Memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to Toys for Tots have been suggested.

Richard’s family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to his nephew, Richard Lock, for his loving care during Richard’s recent illness.
