Charles H. Tussler, age 79, passed away Monday, February 21, 2011, at his residence. Charles was born in Racine, June 9, 1931, son of the late Leroy and Norma (Nee: Dinkleman) Tussler.
Following graduation from Washington Park High School in 1950, Charles proudly served in the United States Navy. On September 9, 1953, at Holy Name Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Stella A. Sweeti, who preceded him in death on November 14, 2005. Charlie worked as a carpenter for numerous years and was employed as a millwright by American Motors for twenty years.
A lover of baseball, Charlie enjoyed coaching his sons’ little league baseball teams in Sturtevant, coaching for Harmann’s Bar and playing pumpkin ball for St. Sebastian’s in the church league. He also volunteered for the Sturtevant Fire Department and was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. Charlie was a fun-loving bartender who entertained many patrons in Sturtevant. Above all, he was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his children, Randy J. Tussler of Racine, Lance “Budda” (Margaret) Tussler of Kenosha, Renee Thompson of Sturtevant, Rachel Tussler, Sara Tussler, both of Sturtevant; his daughter-in-law, Patti Tussler of Fort Atkinson, IA; his son-in-law, Steve Jander of Racine; his grandchildren, Danielle and Erin Tussler, Clint Downie, Trisha, Melissa, and Norma Jean Tussler, Lynee (Nathan) Thompkins, Rachel Rose Thompson, Katrina, Kyle and Jason Jander, Anna, Samantha and Maxwell Tussler; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Tussler of Margate, Florida; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Vince Sweeti (Georgia), Mike (Pat) Sweeti, Maryann (John) Blickle, Patsy Rupple all of Racine, Linda Tussler of Sturtevant; nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sons, Brian “Worm” Tussler and Todd Tussler; son-in-law, Peter Thompson; and brother, Robert “Peachy” W. Tussler.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Private interment will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m.
