Ida B. Grant, age 94, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital and Hospice Care. She was born in Racine, July 18, 1916, the daughter of the late Charles and Carla (Nee:Bayer) Grant.
Ida grew up on a working farm. Later in life she owned and operated One Stop Superette of Rapids Drive and House of Ice Cream at the same location. Ida also worked for many years at Lamberton’s as their seamstress. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, ceramics, crossword puzzles and cruising.
Surviving are her daughter, Evelyn Matthews; and granddaughter and husband, Candi (David) Kopecky. She is also survived by a niece, nephew, great-niece, great-nephew, three great-great-nephews; and rescue dogs, Coco and Poppy. In addition to her parents, Ida was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Roger Matthews; half brother, Walter; sister and brother-in-law, Leona (Ray) Wortmann; husbands, Paul Roehrich and Norman Christensen.
Per Ida’s wishes, cremation will take place. A Memorial service will be held Thursday, February 17, 2011, at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Relatives and friends may meet prior to the service from 4-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials to Wheaton Franciscan Home Health and Hospice are suggested.
