LaVerne V. (Neitzel) Zuba

LaVerne V. Zuba, age 90, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. LaVerne was born in Racine on November 11, 1920, daughter of the late Fred and Marnella (Nee: Peterson) Neitzel.

Laverne was married to Ray Hassel and later divorced. On January 14, 1944, LaVerne was united in marriage to Frank Zuba who preceded her in death in 1977. LaVerne was employed by Zahn’s Department Store and also at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Surviving are her children, Michael (Twyla) Hassel of Denver, CO, David (Dawn) Hassel of Kenosha, Victor (Janet) Zuba of Yorkville, Cindy Harris of Racine; sisters, Mervyn (George) Suckow of Foley, Alabama, Louella Becker of Racine, grandchildren: Kathy Etheridge, Darren Spenler, Janelle McGuire, Christopher Andersen, Gregg Hassell, Jason Hassel, Julie Lauber, Jeff Zuba, Sarah Breiwick and Jenny Welch, Many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she also was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Vinkavich; brothers –in-law, Vic Vinkavich and Paul Becker;  and three grandchildren, Troy Hassel, Michelle Hassel and Steven Welch.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Aaron Dolan officiating. Private interment will be held at Mound Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for visitation on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
