Donald R. Montgomery, age 67, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011, at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee. Don was born in Baton Rouge, LA, on August 16, 1943, son of the late Kenneth and Louise (Nee: Seidel) Montgomery.
He was raised in Racine where he attended Holy Name Elementary School and graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1963. During the Vietnam Era he served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea. He married the former Gina Mazelis on January 23, 1971. Don worked at SC Johnson for his entire career, retiring in 2005. Don was an avid reader who also enjoyed golfing and fishing, but most dear to him were his family and home.
He was the loving husband of Gina; the proud father of Heather (Randy) Elliott and Debra A. Montgomery; the adoring grandfather of Cole, Riley and Nolan Elliott, Gwyneth, Connor and Lucas Monroe; dear son of Louise Montgomery. Also surviving are his brothers, Dennis (Mary Jo), Jeffrey, Jerry (Janet);several nieces and a nephew; mother-in-law, Tamara Mazelis; and brother-in-law, Janis Mazelis. He was preceded in death by his father, Ken Montgomery. Don was a very good man, and the world is a sadder place without him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at 6 p.m. at St. Richard’s Catholic Church, 1503 Grand Ave., with Reverend Ron Gramza officiating. Relatives and friends may meet Wednesday at the church from 4 p.m. until time of Mass at 6 p.m. Interment with full military honors will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Southern Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover. Memorials to St. Richard’s Catholic Church have been suggested.
