James 'Jim' S. Kaplan

James S. Kaplan, age 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 22, 2010.  Jim was born in Racine, June 16, 1933, son of the late John and Gertrude (Nee:  Schliesmann) Kaplan.

Jim was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1952.”  On August 17, 1957, at St. Joseph Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Hull.  He was employed for twenty-five years at Racine Steel Castings.  He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church as well as a dedicated volunteer for the Miss Racine Scholarship Program for many years.  He truly enjoyed working with local businesses and organizations to raise scholarship money to help local women earn their college degrees. An avid gardener, Jim enjoyed beautifying his yard.  More than anything, time spent with family was cherished.  He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Ann; his two children, Stephen (Karen) Kaplan of Cedarburg, WI, Therese (Mark) Van Ryne of Barrington, IL; his three grandchildren, Alexis, Jared and MacKenzie; sister, Marion George; brother, George (Beverly) Kaplan; twin brother, John Kaplan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, John George; and sister-in-law, Charlene Kaplan.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, April 26, 2010, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., with Rev. William Dietzler officiating, assisted by Deacon Russell Missureli.  Private interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Monday at the church from  noon until time of service.  Memorials to St. Catherine’s High School have been suggested.
