Marvin Wynstra

Marvin Wynstra, 83, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - All Saints.  He was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on November 28, 1926, the son of Alex and Henriette (nee: Hogeboom) Wynstra. 

Marvin was united in marriage to Shirley Johnson on March 19, 1948, at Grove Avenue Baptist Church.  He was employed at Johnson Park Golf Course for 26 years, 13 years as greenskeeper, then was custodian for Humble Park until his retirement. Marvin faithfully attended First Reformed Church and was a City of Racine 20-Year Club member.  He and Shirley enjoyed camping throughout the United States and wintered in Clermont, Florida, for more than 20 years.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley; and their children, Keith (Patricia) Wynstra of Kenosha, Carla (Tom) Hydeen of Orange City, Iowa, and Ruby (Cliff) Seeton of Racine; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Henry (Susie) Wynstra and Bernie (Marilyn) Wynstra; sisters, Ann Kuiper, Grace Walma, Theresa Wynstra, Tina Heisa and Henriett (Rev. John) Bylsma. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

Funeral services for Marvin will be held at First Reformed Church, 7110 Spring St., Racine, on Friday, April 16, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Cary Winn officiating. There will be a visitation at the church on Friday before services from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Marvin will be laid to rest at West Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to First Reformed Church have been suggested.
