Walter A. Finley Sr.

COLUMBIA, S.C. Walter A. Finley Sr. 80, formerly of Racine, passed away in Columbia, SC, on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Walter was born in Woodstock, Illinois on July 23, 1929, the son of Chester and Frances (nee: Eley) Finley.

He was employed as a farmer for H&R Horner and Son retiring after many years. Walter was an avid Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers fan, along with finding great enjoyment in bowling, horseshoes and travel, but most of all spending time with his family.

Walter is survived by his children, Michael (Kim) Finley of Columbia, SC, Patrick (Wanda) Finley of Albermarle, NC, Walter “Butch” (Dee) Finley Jr., Sandra (Jeff) Meier, Tammy (Andrew Sanchez) Finley, Tim Finley and daughter-in-law, Cyndi   Knapp Finley, all of Racine; grandchildren, Jamie Burris, Paul (Amber) Segura Jr., Amy (Lance) Schmidt, Dustin Finley, Aaron Knapp, Stephanie (Sicarra Farris) Meier, Daniel Finley, Nick  Knapp, Nicole Meier, Austin Finley, Scott Finley, Cassandra McNeal; great-grandchildren, Kyra, Ariana , Trevion, Leah , Isaac, Sierrah, Lance Jr.; sisters, Ruth Jones of  Merced, CA, and Sandy (Richard) Dederich of  Twin Lakes,WI; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Fred (Marilyn) Ellis; and dear friends, Jean Gustin and Andy and Lois Simmonds. Last but not least, his canine pal “Chico.” Walter is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Paul, on August 15, 2002; wife, Barbara, on April 4, 2004; parents; brothers, Richard and Russell Finley; brother-in-law, Virgil Jones; sister, Shirley Meike; and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Reid.

Walter’s family will share a time of reflection and remembrance at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, May 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. Walter will be laid to rest next to his son Paul at Graceland Cemetery. There will be a memorial visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.
